Congenital Hyperinsulinism (HI) is a rare disease that causes extreme low blood sugar. If not diagnosed early, it can cause brain damage or even death. In 2015, when Hamilton's son Bo Jordan Loomis was 17 months old, he was diagnosed with the life-threatening condition, and despite being non-verbal and having learning disabilities, he is responding well to treatment. Many other HI kids are not so fortunate.
Hamilton Loomis dedicates Basics' opening track, “Sugar Baby,” to Congenital Hyperinsulinism International (CHI), a non-profit organization that heads research on the disease, educates doctors and hospitals, and supports and aids families affected by the disease. “They call HI kids 'sugar babies,' so I wanted to write a song in appreciation for all they do for families all over the world,” Loomis says.
